Petra Pallier, born in 1999, grew up in a rural part of Austria and was blessed with a librarian mom. Thanks to this she grew up loving books and soon began writing her first stories. Once she spoke English — the language she loves most and is now studying at university — fluently, she never went back to writing German stories again.
What was your favorite book as a child?
My favourite book series as a child was definitely Warrior Cats, so it would have to be one of them. I loved the world-building of those books, and the way they depicted a cat society and different personalities. What made the experience even better was that many other children my age also loved the series, so I could talk to them about it on internet forums. I absolutely need to re-read them soon.
What was the original reason or motivation why you started writing creatively?
My mom is a librarian, so we always had (what seemed) an almost infinite supply of books streaming into our home. Soon the obvious next step after reading stories was to write my own. At the start, those stories were usually of the fantasy genre because that is what I liked to read as a child. As a teenager, my favourite genre to write became the one I grew to love until now: romance.
What was the most adventurous or thrilling thing you ever did/experienced?
Objectively it was probably my tandem parachute jump that I got as a birthday present a few years back. My dad has been a skydiver for as long as I can remember, so it was obvious that I had to do it at some point. While it was really fun, it’s not something I can imagine doing regularly. I’ll stick to writing for now…
Do you listen to music while reading or writing?
Absolutely not. I can’t concentrate at all when I’m listening to music, even instrumental music. However, I often listen to specific songs to get me into the mood of the story I want to write before I actually sit down to write. It also motivates me to continue a story if I’m ever in a rut.
