Born in Seoul, South Korea. Now living in Calgary, Alberta on the traditional territories of the peoples of Treaty 7 including the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprised of the Siksika, the Piikani, and the Kainai First Nations), the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Stoney Nakoda (including Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney First Nations). Calgary is also home to the Métis Nation within Alberta including Nose Hill Métis Districts 5 and Elbow Métis District 6.

Rachel Huh (she/her) is a PhD student at the University of Calgary in the Department of English with a specialization in creative writing. Her research, prose, and poetry examine Asian diasporic identity, chronic illness, and gothic literature.

What was your favorite book as a child?
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins — I’m a sucker for a good spec fic book.
What was the original reason or motivation why you started writing creatively?
While my early career started in non-profit and social justice work, I rediscovered my childhood love of writing when a flare up of my chronic illness prevented me from working for over a year. It was during this time cooped up and isolated that I finally gave myself the time to explore the craft more seriously.
What was the most adventurous or thrilling thing you ever did/experienced?
I've gone skydiving a couple times in my early twenties and I highly recommend!
Do you listen to music while reading or writing? Why/why not?
I don't listen to music while writing because I find it hard to edit for rhythm and sound otherwise, but a good song while I'm reading is always welcome.
