D.G. Rosales is a Guatemalan-born writer based in North Carolina, USA. His work appears or is forthcoming in Variety Pack, Star*Line, and Azahares, among others. He holds an MBA from Elon University and a BS in Applied Physics from Appalachian State University. When he isn’t managing projects, he’s likely chasing his toddler through a local bookstore during storytime.
What was your favorite book as a child?
Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist. As a child, it was the perfect gateway drug. It had enough philosophy to make me want to read literary fiction, and enough fantasy for genre.
What was the original reason or motivation why you started writing creatively?
It was the perfect storm. Becoming a father makes you analyze your life, and not being able to go anywhere during the pandemic had my wheels spinning. Then, with encouragement from my wife and D&D friends, they pushed me to write because I was already world-building with them.
What was the most adventurous or thrilling thing you ever did/experienced?
I want to say emigrating from Guatemala, but that’s partly a decision my parents made for us. I could say becoming a father, but that also wasn’t a decision I made alone. I’m going to have to go with skydiving. (I’d love to do it again!)
Do you listen to music while reading or writing?
I can’t. I get distracted too easily, even by instrumental or lo-fi. I tend to look for music in the emotional register of what I’m reading or writing, but only when I’m not reading or writing.
