English is the number one global language. Yet, did you know that more than two-thirds of worldwide English speakers have come to this language as a second or a foreign language? Or, did you know that in the last ten years, two winners of the Nobel Prize in Literature have excelled in their craft in English as a second language? Penning in a foreign tongue is more widely spread than most of us are aware of.
This year, Tint Journal editor-in-chief Lisa Schantl is joining the Key to the Castle workshop series for a lecture and workshop on her current PhD topic which is poetry in English as the writer’s second language (learn more here).
Following an introductory lecture on this topic, students will have a chance to do some writing and sharing of their own. There will also be time for a Q&A.
Refreshments will be served and there will be time for mingling, enjoying the waterfront views and taking a chance on a door prize or two.
To register, please visit the organizer’s website here.
Many thanks to Lisa’s former teacher Kathy Curto at Montclair State University as well as to the University of Graz for making this collaboration possible.
