That was ... Tinted Tales | Spring ‘26

Published June 1st, 2026 News

On Thursday, May 28, 2026, the ninth edition of Tint Journal’s reading series “Tinted Tales” took place. Like last time, our chosen locality was the lovely vegan restaurant Café Erde in the midst of Graz, Austria, where we welcomed our guests and performers on the first floor.

As has become tradition by now, the reading event commenced with a musical set. At this reading’s edition, the folk duo a beautiful place brought an intersection of pop music and traditional Irish sounds into the space and created a joyful and yet at times pensive atmosphere.

The first group of readers consisted of Margo Gritt, a fiction writer from Russia, whose short story “Saturday” appeared in Tint’s Fall ’20 issue, Serena Piccolo, an Italian poet and playwright, who joined us from her residence in Italy with a set of her poems (find her poem “The sun kisses the prettiest” in our Spring ’21 issue), and the open list guest Sarah Maxl, who presented a couple of her travel poems on stage.

After a break it was time for a give-away: At this reading, guests could purchase lottery tickets, which served as tickets towards the potential win of a Tinted Trails anthology copy. The book was successfully raffled among the present guests, and the second half of the event unfolded.

After another musical interlude by a beautiful place, Palestinian-Tunisian poet Nawel Abdallah lead the second group of writers with her poem “Small Wishes” (appeared in Tint Spring ’25) and a couple of her other works. She was followed by Vincent Ternida, who joined the reading from Vancouver, Canada, and presented an excerpt from his short story “Room 1213” (also Tint Spring ’25) to us on-site. The literary performances closed with a set by Olja Alvir, author and translator based in Vienna and elsewhere, whose poem “identity is a territory” can be found in our Spring ’22 issue and in the anthology Tinted Trails.

A beautiful place closed the event with their harmonious sounds, and the guests as well as the authors lingered, chatted, and had another drink until the café closed at 10 pm.

Although the hybrid nature of the event had to be modified slightly due to funding cuts, we want to express our thanks to the ÖH Uni Graz, Stadt Graz Kultur and our supporters for their generous support. Thanks to them, we were yet again able to invite authors from other areas of the globe to join virtually. A livestream of the event onto our YouTube channel was, however, not possible. We’re doing our best to make selected episodes of the reading available to our readers and fans from elsewhere in hindsight, and we will spread the news once the videos have been edited and prepared for our channel.

If you enjoy the reading series, please consider giving to Tint Journal, so that further editions can be made possible. You can do so easily by checking the journal out on Ko-fi or donate directly via PayPal. Immense gratitude.

We are looking forward to seeing our readers, writers, and fans-at-large at our next events which can be found here in our news and events section. See you soon!
