Nazli Artemia is originally from Iran and immigrated to the United States a decade ago. She holds an MFA in creative writing and has worked as a fiction editor, and Persian translator, with several local magazines in the United States. She is currently working on her first novel.
What was your favorite book as a child?
Tales of Azerbaijan by Samad Behrangi.
Do you remember the original reason or motivation why you started writing creatively?
My parents used to read me Persian poems since I was three years old. I think my passion for writing goes back to that.
What was the most adventurous or thrilling thing you ever did/experienced?
There is not just one. I have done lots of adventurous things in my life! One of the recent ones was leaving my family and my home to come to a new country, while I knew no one and just had two suitcases.
Do you listen to music while reading or writing?
Sometimes. It depends on the thing I’m working on. If it is romantic, I listen to some of my favorite romantic songs while working on the piece.
