What was your favorite book as a child?
Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe. In fact, I only recently stopped dreaming of being stranded on a remote island.
Do you remember the original reason or motivation why you started writing creatively?
When I was around sixteen, I got a homework assignment for a short creative text. It was the only homework I actually did and it felt kind of good once I was finished.
What was the most adventurous or thrilling thing you ever did/experienced?
Taking the bullet train from Shanghai to Beijing alone at night while my phone battery was dying. I had no money, food or water with me and was not speaking the language. Before the screen went black, I got some strangers to write down the address of my hotel on a piece of paper in Chinese characters. Even then, I barely got a taxi driver to take me there after my train had arrived.
Do you listen to music while reading or writing?
Yes, sometimes. I like movie soundtracks as they help me concentrate. My favorite: The Fountain by Clint Mansell.
