Writing in a language that is not one's first, and probably not even among the official languages of one's current place of residence, bears challenges. Still, many writers find a colorful playground or a comforting rescue in a language that they have learnt later in life, as they cross borders and blend cultures with their unique idiosyncrasies and perspectives. The cultural, geographical and personal riches of their texts are a crucial contribution to the present and future development of global literature and intercultural understanding.
For the past five years, the Graz-based literary magazine Tint Journal has contributed to raising awareness for translingual authors who choose to compose their texts in English as their second language (ESL). To celebrate the anniversary of this volunteer effort, Tint is publishing an anthology on ESL literature, Tinted Trails, which will be presented at the festival for translingual literature of the same name.
At the book presentation, we are going to present the anthology Tinted Trails for the first time to the public. Join us for an evening with ESL authors from all around the globe, Tint editors and long-time volunteers, and fellow literature lovers. There will be snacks and drinks, and the book will be available for purchase too, of course.
Panel discussion with the authors Olja Alvir, Brianna Colmenares, Lindi Dedek and Laura Theis.
Moderation: Lisa Schantl and John Salimbene.
Music: Fraeulein Astrid.
Free admission, donations welcome.
Doors at 6:30 pm (CET).
