Literature and arts often happen behind closed curtains and in settings that require a certain code knowledge from attendees. With this walk, we want to create awareness for the importance to bring literature out into the public space where an exchange amongst various groups of people from all kinds of backgrounds is truly possible. Literature in public space should be able to take place without bureaucratic hurdles and in a respectful and well-meaning manner.

At various stops in urban public space, members of the English-language theater group The Pennyless Players will enact some of the poems and short stories from the Tinted Trails anthology. Starting from the crossing Mariahilferstraße/Stockergasse (next to Hotel Feichtinger), we’ll make our way through the city, claiming the public space for literature, with our final goal being the Tinted Trails festival center at the Afro-Asian Institute Graz (Leechgasse 24, 8010 Graz).

Join this walk to shine a light on the necessity for arts in public space, and to experience translingual and transcultural literature in new ways and from new perspectives.
